Cap / Collar badges 1914-1918

The basic 1903 pattern beaver badge worn prior to the war continued to be the principle cap badge for the conflict. Due to the increased size of the corps during the war, additional variants and finishes ( ie brass , darkened bronze) could be found. Examples of this pattern badge can be found HERE.

During the Great War a number of specialized CASC units were developped. This led to a few of them adopting their unique insignia beyond the 1903 pattern cap badge. These units were formed during the war and disbanded by 1920. The badges were often never officially approved.

In addition, the rapid growth of the CEF lead to shortages in specialized insignia. It was not uncommon to see members of the CASC wearing general list cap badges and collars, particularly at the beginning of the war.

  • CEF General List Canada Cap Badges

There were a number of different variations in general list cap badges. A vague description of what the badge was to look like allowed for a certain amount of design differences from the different manufacturers. These are just a few of the different patterns that were produced during the war.
